The building had to be located next to a roundabout and solve the site different levels between the access road and the rear end housing. We also had to preserve a small existing listed building whose central location in the site posed major constraints to the overall plan. We proposed creating two levels, a lower commercial facade facing the main street and a pedestrian plaza on a higher level to become the site´s central core around which, other premises and a large supermarket gravitate. The listed building was integrated into the set as an additional element of the square, aligning it to one of the building extensions. The vehicles access to the building is driven to the site’s perimeter, to not interfere with the pedestrian circulation. In fact, a large pedestrian ramp, in continuity with the access to the town centre, connects the upper plaza with the street. Facing the main road, the building curves its facade, as a dialog with the roundabout nearby. A large canopy differentiates the two main levels of the complex.
